When to Expect Results from Interns: A Guide for Employers

Internships can be a valuable asset for both the intern and the employer. For the intern, it's an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a specific field, while for the employer, it's a chance to bring fresh perspectives and new ideas to the company. However, one question that often arises is: “when can I expect to see results from my interns?”

The answer to this question varies depending on the intern's level of experience and the nature of the internship. For example, an intern who is just starting their career may take longer to produce results compared to an experienced intern who has already had some professional experience. Additionally, the type of tasks assigned to the intern will also play a role in determining when results can be expected and the amount of coaching and training the company is providing to the intern.

In general, it's important to set clear expectations with the intern from the beginning of the internship. This includes outlining specific goals and tasks for the internship, as well as setting a timeline for when results can be expected. Depending on the intern's level of experience, it may take longer for them to complete certain tasks, but as long as clear expectations are set, guidelines are established and the proper training structure is in place, the intern should be able to support your team and help accomplish company goals.

It's also important to note that internships are not just about producing tangible results, but also about learning and development. Therefore, it's important to provide regular feedback and mentorship to the intern throughout the internship to help them grow and develop professionally. And remember, with each point of feedback, that just helps them grow into the professional you want them to be!
